Elephants and ants. Mountains and deserts. Giraffes and hippos.
God created from nothing. Through the power of His voice He spoke everything into existence. My mind can barely comprehend the vast array of His creation. Sun, moon and stars, oceans, mountains and beaches, fish and animals, plants and trees. And if that weren’t enough, He created humans with a unique identity. “So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male & female He created them" (Gen. 1:27) - emphasis added. I bear the thumbprint of God’s image. Not monkeys or flowers or valleys but me. And you. We are made in His creative image. So this imaginative, artistic and inventive God we love and serve has made us imaginative, artistic, and inventive, too.
Me? I can barely create when given ample supplies. And yet Truth is declaring that God’s divine creativity is stamped on my soul. And your soul. And our kids’ souls.
Children are evidence of humans being made in the likeness of God’s creativity. Ever watch a child play? Draw? Build? Or dream? Their creativity knows no bounds and provides adults with countless laughs at their originality. "We’re all born with some holy-inspired creativity, and we can use it to praise God. The secret to unlocking our creativity is finding an aspect of it that connects us to God – and then practicing it. Children can learn to use their God-given creativity throughout their lives,” says Amy Downing.*
This summer, our Children’s Ministry is providing space for our children to Create Praise. Various adults will lead and guide our children in a creative project that will explore the gift of creativity God has given them and praise Him through it. These projects will vary each week and cover different mediums: drawing/painting, music, drama, writing, photography, cooking, etc. Create Praise goes beyond “craft time” to foster a thin space where children encounter God in unique ways.
Children who have completed kindergarten through 4th grades are invited to Create Praise on Wednesday nights, 7-8 pm, this summer in the 4th grade classroom.
