On Wednesday nights this summer, our rising 1st through 5th graders are participating in Olympic Missions Wednesdays! We kicked the series off the first week of June with our own Opening Ceremony. We read the Great Commission and discussed Jesus’ instructions to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. Each week, a guest speaker who has done mission work in a different country has come to tell us about that country. They share pictures and stories from their time there. They also tell the children how we can be praying for the people in that specific country. We spend time together in prayer for the gospel to continue spreading in that country. We also play a game, eat a snack, and make a craft that is centered around each country.
So far we’ve heard about Australia, Ukraine, and Panama. In the coming weeks, we’ll hear about Brazil, Honduras, Greece and Zambia. Then on Wednesday, August 3, we’ll wrap up with our own Closing Ceremony. Our Children’s Ministry Intern, Katie Putt, has been organizing and leading the class each week. She’s enjoyed not only getting to hear from our different guests, but also seeing the children expand their worldview. They have been excited each week and curious to find out about new places. It’s been a blessing to hear their prayers for people all over the world. Who knows where God might lead the children at Sycamore View to do mission work someday!
It’s not too late for your 1st through 5th grader to join the fun with us on Wednesday nights in room 303!
