Orphan Sunday Helps Children
Orphan Sunday, November 3, brought a lot of excitement to the Sycamore View family. Our Handprints ministry stayed busy all weekend long. Handprints Ministry recognizes the call to care for orphans by supporting adoptive and foster families. On Saturday night, Handprints partnered with our youth group to provide a Parents Night Out and Silent Auction to benefit the Adoption Fund for Joel & Lori Shores. Over $3,000 was raised to move the Shores’ adoption process forward. Plus, parents and children had a great night of fun!
Sycamore View and Handprints partnered with several other churches through the city of Memphis to sponsor the Packed-N-Love Christmas ministry that provides a Christmas for every child in DCS custody in Shelby County. Each bin is given out empty except for one child’s wish list packed inside. The bins are then returned full of Christmas goodies (valued at $200-$250 per bin) and will be given to foster children at a Christmas party in December. Sycamore View had 30 bins. They were all taken within 10 minutes! It was beautiful to see people participating in what James calls “pure and undefiled religion.”
